Love the Feedback
WOW!  What a great response you have given to my first newsletter.  I received some amazing feedback and Mort is so pleased that everyone has mentioned his contribution.  He’s so helpful.

I would like to respond to some of the comments and suggestions.

First thank you to everyone who pointed out the typos and spelling mistakes. That is greatly appreciated.  My goal is to provide as much value to you as I can in the most professional and efficient way I can.

Get Fit!
Richard from California  pointed out that much of the first newsletter was dedicated to nutrition issues and food.  On reflection, I agree.  In future issues I will be looking at stress management and other health and wellness topics.  If you have a particular topic, you would like to see highlighted, let me know. liz@lifebydesigncenter.com. So let’s have a look at fitness. more>>

Feedback on last week's recipe (Spaghetti Bolognese)

Connie from Sunnyvale was curious about my inclusion of coconut oil in the recipe.  Connie, correctly pointed out to me that coconut is high is saturated fat.  This is true, coconut oil is relatively high in saturated fat but it is the medium chain fatty acids that have no negative effects on cholesterol. more>>

Guest appearances
Christina from Willow Glen suggested that interviews with guests could be helpful.  I have asked a few people I know in the health and wellness world if they would be interested in doing an article or introducing their product and will be featuring my first guest in one of the next few issues. more>>

Healthy, Wealthy & Loving Life #3

Welcome to newsletter number 3.
My first newsletter was predominantly about nutrition and last week I introduced some aspects of fitness.  This week I have added some information about stress.  What ever is happening in the world, if we choose to do so we can always find something to cause us to feel stress.  Whether it is money, work, family, relationships, or something else most of us have at one time or another had moments of anxiety to full blown depression brought on by things going on around us.

The article I have included here is about adrenalin and gives some understanding of what is happening in our chemical make up to cause us to feel this way.

I am really excited about the source of the article – Healthcoachingu.com.  At the end of this week, I will complete my training for this fabulous website and will be offering it to my clients.  This will give me the ability to do online coaching through a totally secure website that allows the client 24-hour access to coaching and will be useful for my international clients in different time zones.  It also gives me access to new tools and programs that will enhance the coaching I am giving my existing clients if they wish to sign up for web based coaching.

Anyone can visit the public site at www.healthcoachingu.com .  Once enrolled the member pages have all sorts of tools and information tailored to individual clients.  The article below is one of hundreds available to me as a coach to access and post for my clients and all articles have been scrutinized by a panel of experts for accuracy.

I would love to hear any comments you have about the article or anything else in this or any of my newsletters

Have a great week
Stay healthy
Liz

Football Season has started and I have noticed an increased use of our local snack shack at the sports field.  Hot dogs and Hamburgers are the rule.  Healthy?  Well you make your own mind up.  In most cases, the providers are using the best-priced sausages or patties they can get, white buns, and relishes that have come from some mass produced container and are high in Sugar content.

Healthy, Wealthy & Loving Life #4

Welcome to Newsletter # 4.  I am excited that, two weeks after I first mentioned Christina’s wonderful idea of featuring special guests, I have my first special guest appearance with an Article by Susan Spittler.  Susan is situated in California’s Bay Area and is an Independent Business Owner for MonaVie a highly successful antioxidant fruit juice drink featuring the acai berry from the Brazilian rain forest.  To compliment Susan’s article I have included and article from Hummingbird Technology and HealthcoachingU.com about what exactly antioxidants are and why they are important.  I have also included some other websites you can go to for more information about antioxidants.

Mort has chosen a different subject this week – an area we don’t always like to discus but it appealed to his doggy sense of importance.  So check out his article about “what humans don’t like to talk about.”

Antioxidants
Learn about antioxidants and their benefits

Oxygen in our body reacts with cells to produce free radicals. Free radicals damage our system. Antioxidants combine with oxygen to decrease free radical production, and thus, provide some protection from cancer, heart disease, and cataracts.

Are you ready to feel better & healthier?
Article by Susan Spittler

MonaVie juice is a functional nutritional beverage that features a delicious and energizing blend of 19 fruits from around the world that work together.  Its crown jewel is the Brazilian acai berry.  The Brazilian acai berry is considered to have the best nutritional value of any fruit on earth.  Dr. Perricone, in his bestseller The Perricone Promise named acai as the #1 super-food in the world.  In fact, based on USDA data, the açai berry's total ORAC (antioxidant) activity is 200%-750% more than any other fruit or vegetable tested! more>>

What humans don’t like to talk about!

Poop!  A very important subject if you are a dog.  Dogs can get to know another dog very well by the nature of what he leaves behind him.  This is a very necessary function for dogs and people but, unlike dogs, people don’t like to talk about it.  You spend a lot of time talking about what you put into your mouth but don’t talk about what comes out of the other end. more>>

Healthy, Wealthy & Loving Life #5

Welcome to week #5. The guest article this week is from Alyssa Thomas who was explaining to me about ViSalus.  I suggested she write an article and as a result, she is my featured guest this week. Earlier this week I had reason to do some reflection and some recollection of some fond memories.  My grandmother died in 1992 but she still plays a very strong role in my life.  I have been told I am like her in many ways and it is pleasant to reminisce about my childhood when we went to stay with her and my grandfather.    more>>

I went through an unhealthy period in my life when, in the interest of time, I ate very little until late in the day.  It became a habit that was very hard to break.  I just would not be hungry or think about eating until the afternoon.  At first I lost weigh this way but then I gained, and I gained.  Finally, somebody explained to me that I had gone into starvation mode and my body was storing everything it could anticipating famine.  I began eating breakfast and have been fit and healthy ever since.  I have included my favorite breakfast as this weeks’ recipe.

Let’s talk nutrition!
(A guest article by Alyssa Thomas)

Good nutrition is the cornerstone of good health. Yet eating right to get the proper nutrients to maintain a healthy body and mind can be challenging. While many of us take supplements, they are not all created equal!! Eating right is a challenge for most of us. This is why 49% of our food dollars are spent on fast food, and only 25% of us eat the recommended amount of fruits or vegetables each day. If your busy lifestyle doesn't allow you the time you need to find, cook and eat healthy foods, then you need to supplement your diet.  So who can we turn to for advice?  What can we do to help ourselves? more>>

Hearty Healthy Breakfast
One of the reasons I used to skip breakfast was convenience.  I was a single mum, two children under 5 and having to get them to childcare and myself to school 18 miles away by 9am.  That used to be my excuse.  No time. I don’t make that excuse any more.  Once I realized the importance of having breakfast and how much difference it made on my ability to function I made it a priority to never skip breakfast.
Here is my system for simplifying breakfast. more>>

Beagle Bites
A dog’s eye view of over eating!
Basically – “don’t do it!” At my last physical (I get one every year and strongly recommend that all you humans do too) the vet was rather unkind and wrote “over weight” on my report card.  It was my only bad grade, every thing else was A+.  Mum had been away for several courses – she goes several times a year to keep herself current on the coaching stuff, and I had been missing her and telling my dad and my older brother, Matt, so they were indulging me with treats to keep me happy.  I am very good at asking for treats, you should see the tricks I can do.  I even know how to ask quietly – my indoor voice – when I am in the house.  In all fairness to them, mum had indulged me too before she went.

Any way the result of my one bad grade – A DIET! more>>
